Historical account by one of Hawaiʻi’s better known kupuna (elder) Emma K. Kauhi, a re-telling of her own experiences of growing up within the area of Kapaʻahu in the Puna district of the island of Hawaiʻi. Translated from recordings of Mrs. Kauhi to Hawaiian language classes at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo in 1989-1990. The first half of the book is composed in Hawaiian with translation into English in the second half, interestingly enough, Emma Kauhi decided to translate the last story herself, a must for Hawaiian language enthusiasts and a wealth of knowledge that should be partaken.
