Born to Chinese immigrant parents in 1912, Ching attended school on Oahu, graduating from Saint Louis in 1932. He was elected class president twice and excelled in boxing. There, his love of athletics grew and that became the basis for some of the philanthropic work that continues in his name and determined the beneficiary of sales of the biography. The book follows Ching from his humble beginnings to his rise in Honolulu business circles to his death in 1985.
